Haunted House

October is time for fun. Loads of fun. One bad thing about Oct is the Sports Day. Otherwise, it's great. Yesterday, we celebrated our school carnival, 'Anand Matsuri'. Every year in Oct., we put up stalls for fund-raising and some students perform something.

This time, we, the higher graders thought of doing something 'different' and we ended up playing a haunted house. First the boys were all against us, saying that we won't earn profit. Finally, we girls had to wield our power over them and establish dictatorship to make them stick to our plan.

Let me tell you, the prep was done in just 1 week and we were all hyper-hyper-tensed. That is, only the girls. Nevertheless, we managed to influence the boys and they also were tensed. Everybody was tensed. Chaos and mayhem ruled.

Reasons:
* The venue kept changing. We planned the design for around 4 or 5 rooms before we ended up in a big, eerie dungeon behind the stage.
*Girls were managing the whole affair with the exception of few sensible boys. Lack of communication between us.
*No matter where we did, we had to cover the windows and block out all the sources of light. It was a titanic task.
*'Hey I don't wanna be a Kappa!' 'You are insane. we can't do that' 'See! All you do is hush me up and never listen to me!' (Numerous fights.)
*In the end, when we finally decided the venue, we all ran out of ideas.
*Lack of props when the plan was finally fixed.

Despite all these confusion, we managed to make our Haunted House a blast and made a history. One day before the carnival, we were all stuck up in that dungeon, bickering and making faces. I stayed in school for around 13 hours to help doing the preps.

So, what was in that haunted house?? The theme: to complete the quest.
The Quest: to kill the Satan who had conquered Earth.
So, we had a tour guide (me), witch, a dead man, wizard, the Satan, a dracula and several other ghosts. We successfully scared almost everyone but the big kids who knew it was just us. Some small kids were really really freaked out that we had to switch on the lights.

This is how we looked:

Spot me! I am wearing a black top! and the most hideous-looking gal in the lot.

Boys looked like this:

Most of them wore masks for they couldn't be naturally scary like us gals ;)

when we finished scaring the last group of customers we were dead tired. My throat was on fire and our legs would have snapped into two. I am telling you, setting up a haunted house and playing ghosts are really tough. You need to have high level of patience when the same kid comes in for the fifth time and still gets freaked out and screams.

There, there, the devilishly charming gals ;)

On the roof and ticket misery

Wow exams are over! Freedom is restored!! I am in an exceptionally ecstatic mood.... Last week it was always 'I don't want to go to school.. :('. but now, I'm all 'I wanna go to school!!!!!'... no, I think it sounds more like 'I just wanna get out of house'. It's boring. Yes.

I just finished reading the rest of 'The short second life of Bree Tanner' and I am thinking of continuing with Gone With The Wind. Okay, right now I am gonna update you guys on the important things.

Last saturday (or friday...I don't remember) I witnessed murder. Okay, that was a hyperbole. This is the scene. Mum and dad gone for a walk. 11pm. Pretending that I might faint any moment because of the drowsiness, I made my way to the bed. Totally unsuspicious, they left me in charge of my sis and went out. Just to make sure that they were really out of the building and not spying on me from behind the door, I peeked outside the window. Yes. They were gone. I thought of making a run for the laptop and watch some videos, when I spotted a human-like silhouette on the roof of the opposite block.
I tried to convince myself that it was just a dish but I couldn't. It was a human figure. A boy. May be a high-schooler? He looked like one. I seriously need some sleep.... The figure started moving. Taking a closer look, I noticed one more boy in school uniform,  awaiting the other's return. They spotted me. They gave me a why-are-you-seeing-out-of-the-window-now-of-all-time sort of a look. My eyes were as big as half my face and another shock would have surely made my eye-balls pop-out of my sockets. I opened the window and let myself freeze in the early winter breeze. Despite the cold, I was sweating and trembling furiously.

I wanted to shout. 'What the hell are you guys doing up there at such a time?!' He certainly didn't look like he was looking for a ball that accidentally landed there when they were plaing baseball. I couldn't find my tongue. Feeling like being hit in the head by a speeding ball, I watched the crazy guys. They surely must have some nerves. Loitering on the roof of a 3-storey building at such a time of night. Finally, he climbed down the metallic ladder adjacent to the building, a hard high-five with the other boy and they bolted to the fence and jumped over it. My eyes couldn't follow them further as they were already in the parking lot. they climbed in a car and pulled out.

Transfixed by the window pane, I didn't know what happened for a while. After sometime, one more boy came running into the building and started frantically looking for something. Guessing that it should be those two weirdos, I called him.

I felt like this.
The following conversation persisted:

Me: Hey
Boy (puzzled by a foreigner caling him) : What?
Me: You are looking for those two boys, right? One was on the roof.
Boy: yeah..
Me: They ran away.
Boy: Ran away? Where?
Me: They jumped over the fence and ran away.
Boy: Thanks.
He too, bolted off.

I knew he meant the last word. I felt so happy that I have landed myself right in the middle of some whodunit. Then I felt stupid. Why didn't I just stay out of this like a good girl? May be I have earned myself a big fat trouble. May be I might be kidnapped tomorrow. I hushed myself and fell asleep.

Luckily, I am still alive and no terrorists have come to murder me.

Incident 2:

It was my Japanese exam. I fussed over the fact that I still haven't got a new pasmo after losing the old one and how inconvenient it was to adjust the fare in every other station. I inserted the ticket into the machine and walked past the gate. The ticket came out of the outlet and I, instead of pulling it, pushed the ticket inside. I was holding the line. I grimaced at the man behind me, who seemed to be in a great hurry. He had inserted his ticket into the inlet and both our tickets were stuck in the machine.

There comes the Great Station Master to our rescue ;) He opened the machine and started fiddling with its metallic parts. I waited and so did the other passenger. I am 1000% sure that he was silently cursing me in his mind for me being such a hindrance.

When both our tickets were safely retrieved, he rushed to the opposite platform. I tried to tell him through my mind.. I hope you don't get fired....

These two are the major things that happened in the great life of the great me this week.

Thank you and have a nice day or night.

Horrors of Math

Hello my dear friends who hate math and anything related to complicated numbers. If you like math and anything related to complicated numbers, please do not feel offended :))

Today, I survived the penultimate math examination. Yes. That too pretty well. I never did bad in any subject but I hate almost everything. Only few subjects fancy me. English, biology and psychology... These have nothing to do with numbers.

Lemme now tell you what math exam can do to you.
No matter how much you have prepared, you never really gain even a bit of confidence. This in turn, causes your whole body to tremble. You are likely to develop a splitting head ache. & a stomach ache too. Your internal organs suffer. The agony is too much that you start sweating. And all the unnecessary thoughts pop up in you mind just as you enter the exam hall... Have I revised that trig chapter properly? What do I do if I forget the formula to find the mean by step-deviation method? What if I fail?

One more thing that irritates me. The kid who has confidence. He walks in the exam hall just 5 mins before the exam and laughs at the jittery math-is-the-worst-subject category people. He is intimidating. At this point, even the tiniest bit of hope you had vanishes. Your mind is blank.

You have to attend the morning assembly. This cuts off even that precious 10 mins of your life-saving last min prep. That's it. You are gonna cry out loud 'mummy.... I wanna go home'

Assembly is over. The math teacher walks in with a daunting smile on her face. 'Students, I hope you have prepared well. You will be able to attend all the sums. All the best'. You will be able to.... sounds more like dare you miss any sum...

You are asked to keep your books and bag away and get ready for your death... that is, the exam...

You pray... You pray.. and You pray.... The invigilator hands over the question paper to you..

Then 2 things can happen.

If you have done enough good deeds in your previous birth, you will be able to answer most of the questions and sometimes, all.

OR

Exam = Funeral

Simple equation.

Dear math-haters, I know you all feel the same way. How you do the exam doesn't matter. The torture you go before that matters.

 And math-lovers please don't intimidate us :))

Wish Me Luck!!!!

hey guys, thought of sharing some random pics with you.. day after tomorrow is my social exam.. wish me luck! I need it badly!

woooo! that was fun! Luray Caverns! that place reminds me  of the book, 'the host'. Have you read it? Am telling you, it's awwwwwesome and a must-read! The caves were claustrophobic, but some spots were sooo beautiful... I am really not in a mood to write.. sorry guys and vampires... I know, it's a poor excuse... still.. I will post more pix to make it up...

Eerie, huh? It was. with that background music, it was just the place for shooting a horror movie.. that pic, yes the one above.. see that stalagmites? those are actually reflections. the water is sooo clear that it assimilates the stalactites hanging up and tricks your eyes. You really have to go close to make it out.. I had loads of fun there... + my patiala color blended perfectly with the cavern.. don't you agree?

Amazing drapes, huh? These are some god-knows-what-you-call-them. Okay, some oozing chemical that froze? with General warren hastings in my head, I can hardly recall what the tour guide said.. you can google it. It was cool inside.. a temporary haven from the broiling sun outside.

I love this picture.. How do I look? ;)
The guides told us not to touch the formations but hah!! how dare they tell me what to do and what not to?! I touched them to my heart's content and wasn't brutally killed in a stalactite avalanche!

wow.. wishing well!! It felt like I were in the middle of some fairy-tale... wait a sec.. something flashed through my mind.. do you remember Rhett Butler's description about Scarlett O'Hara's green eyes?? it was compared to the clean green water...

I made so many wishes... but I threw only 2 or 3 coins.. my sister got many from my dad... unfair... I hope God isn't nitpicky... I will get to know if he had listened to me after I get my exam results..

that's it for now... am terribly sleepy and I have to rest my brain so that it doesn't break down when I am in the middle of some complicated trig problem.... Wish me luck, guys!!! I promise I will write something that makes sense after my exams are over... Exams were invented to make the lives of poor little students miserable.... Good bye njdf jcjheicfmi (Gone mad)

The Emerald Castle

26th August 2010... Back from my long vacation in USA... School re-opens in another 3 days.... All the enthusiasm gone and suffering from a worst jetlag ever... Day and night reversed.. Oh my gosh!! My eye-lids feel soo heavy and I am keeping them open.. Listening to 'Love the way you lie' by Eminem... Love the rhythm..
Few assignments left and trigonometry to be completed.. That's a lot of things to do!! Becomes worse if numbers are involved :D

I am recalling my last day in America... My cousin took me to a beautiful green walking track... I loved it soo much and I also regret going there on the last day because it is still vivid on the insides of my eye-lids...
One more reason why I love it sooo much is that it was just like the forest from the twilight series.. soo green and lush and wet that a vampire might pop out from behind a big tree... On both the sides of the track were trees that stood tall, covering the azure and the sweet smell of the earth, wet from the previous day's rain filled my lungs... I usually prefer solitude and that was just the place for a person like me... The dense tree covers hid the houses and other man-made structures. It would have been like humans never existed on earth if the tar road beneath me was not there.I could feel the forest, hear the forest and smell the forest.. The crooked branches of trees from both the sides met above me like an archway.. This reminded me of this particular line from the book, 'Gone With The Wind'.... 'The dark cedars on either side of the graveled avenue met in an arch overhead, turning the long avenue into a dim tunnel'. Alongside the track ran a brown stream, following me as I walked further. It felt great! Some of the bent branches of trees, which looked like they were beseeching heaven resembled candle brackets. And there were great brown branch-chandeliers, with brown leaves instead of crystals clinging to it. They were all lying on the ground, differing from the man-made chandeliers.. It was an emerald castle built by the nature.. There were fallen trees and withered leaves as well as green leaves and healthy brown trunks. It was a perfect blend of life and death.. The dead get buried and are re-born.. The infallible rule on earth..The sun light entered from the holes in the roof of leaves and made different patterns on the ground.. It was a montage of sun light and shade.. A designer carpet, you can say :D
And finally, I reached the bridge, which went across the brown stream.. It was... (I ran out of words).... the best place on earth! Over the stream hung a broken brach, clinging to the tree by just a splinter. There, the tree-tops did not bridge the gap and the sky was visible..The sun shone brightly and the water shimmered as if diamonds were floating on it.. The stream flourished with brown ripples, which reflected the branches of the trees above.. The broken brach, shining strean, the small bridge and the sky...IT WAS AWESOME!! Such a wonderful place it was.. I was soo sad that I had to leave it.. I wish I am re-born as a tree in a forest so that I can listen to the chirping of the birds and voice of the forest forever...

Niagara Falls

On July 31st, we visited the Niagara Falls. It was awesome.. You should see for yourself the force with which it was hitting the huge rocks underneath.. The water splashed in all directions and the mist rose high. It was beautiful. The one to the left of the below picture is the American falls. The one at the center is the horse-shoe falls.

This is the Maid of the Mist ride!! We went so close to the falls.. If it was not for the rain coat they provided, I would have been soaking wet!! Anyway, I was ;) I removed my hood!! It was sort of cloudy and when we neared the falls, the sprinkling water felt like rain.. The water was green like soda. The boat created ripples in the soda-green water... which reminds me of my virtual pet, tamagotchi (it was soda-green in color)...I miss it :( Coming back to niagara, the air felt very heavy with the mist that breathing was very hard.. Every one was enjoying the 'rain'. So was I. The falling water was milk-white. So was the water which hit the rocks and the noise it created blocked out all the other noises. It was like heaven compared to the otherwise sweltering weather.

It was around 10 pm when we went to the Cave of Winds (it was not a cave, actually). I didn't take any picture as doing so would have destroyed the camera, which I didn't want ;) There were three falls. The lighting on them made the falls look heavenly! I still can't imagine how these people could build a deck soooo near the falls!! must have built it in winter when most of the water must have frozen.. My mum  was hesitant to let me go near the falls. My cousin managed to convince her and I got to stand at the corner of the deck. Though the water which fell on us was the water which splashed after hitting the rocks, the force was enormous!! It was like 1000 fire crackers bursting on our backs! I stood there for a long time! It was fun!! & I was freeeeeeeezing! And believe it or not, there were rainbows!! yeah... at 10 pm!! It was because of the splashing water and  the artificial lights passing through it. It looked great against the dark night sky. When the lighting changed to red, the falls looked deadly... oohhh... it was like a huge bloody water fall....

Once again, we got to view these falls from the top.. It was completely dark and the city (actually it is the country,Canada) enveloping it looked beautiful with the iridescent lighting... It was striking...A blend of nature and man-made concrete jungles (sorry if it sounds cliche). Imagine how it would be if the whole ocean was to fall from a great height... the force... you will be lost under it... Niagara matches this explanation..

The Breaking Dawn

hey people! I wrote this in the sky? LOL Above the pacific ocean to be precise. Well, yes. I was on my way to Detroit, by the window, on the flight....

It was around 10.30pm in Japan and 9.30am in Detroit. As a result of the excruciating long journey, my whole body was sore from sitting in the seat. I had managed it for 9 hours. 3 more hours to go.

We were allotted the 4 seats between the aisles, which meant no window :( We had traveled through the afternoon sky of Japan and enetered the pacific night. We flew through the night sky for around 2 hours and then came the enthralling panorama.

The night was opening into dawn, or rather, we were entering the morning sky. I rushed to the window. (yes, the one near the emergency exit)

People... It was just ineffable. I saw! yes, the heaven!

We were sailing above the ocean of clouds. It was snow white in color and it stretched beyond the point any pair of eyes could follow. Above the beautiful ocean, dreamy clouds were floating, glowing due to the illumination by the sun rays.

It was a parade of misty red clouds! Then, I saw...the glorious red sun with an orange halo, throwing its beams from the throne of heaven. The horizon was light green and bloomed into an endless blue sky. For the first time in my life I witnessed dawn from the sky. In the sky and inside the heaven. The breaking dawn (I am a twilight fanatic).
It was a beginning of a new day, new hope and new life.

The Concrete Jungle

Hi, guys...!!! How are you?? I am super fine :D.... I was just pondering what would happen to our earth if we use the resources indiscriminately.... Our reckless acts have already caused a lot of problems..... I wrote a story from the view of a child in 2210..... Hope you like it..!! Please feel free to comment!! I want to improve! Critics are welcomed!!!

The Concrete Jungle

I woke up to another concrete morning. Through my bedroom window, I could see the sun saying good morning to the ruined city of ********, flooded with boring gray buildings. Not a single bird in the sky despite the fact that it is 8AM… Of course, every morning, I wake up to this bird less sky.
Time for school.. I still don’t understand the need of attending classes when the doomsday is so near. I brushed my teeth mechanically, had my breakfast and dressed up.

I entered my classroom, right next to my bedroom to find my teaching robot waiting for me. I sat in my seat and switched on the giant monitor in front of me. The screen flashed - “19.December.2210 – History of our Earth”. I squinted at the green pictures for a moment. My eyes were not accustomed to green things. There, shining like a precious stone was our earth…. The machine was explaining something… I did not bother to listen to it. I stared at the trees that punctuated every corner of the place, birds flying about in the blue sky and the sun that was shining gently … I envied the children who were happily playing in the park… How so nice…. In this world, you cannot even step out of the house without an oxygen mask and a full body suit. Or else you will die of some serious disease…. Suddenly, the picture changed to buildings, the world of buildings I will call. “Can you believe that this is how our earth was 200 years back?” I couldn’t. The screen then flashed the pictures of petroleum and started explaining all the crap, which I have heard a thousand times….

I closed my eyes and pondered the concrete jungle I am now living in. I thought of the beautiful birds and animals of history. All extinct… Humans’ reckless acts have ruined everything…. My dream is to become a famous writer. But I doubt whether there will be any world for me to survive in and write. The end is nearing. I have read many books. Most are very old books, which were written when the earth still had a lot of greens. I imagined the world described in each book. So selfish of the humans’ to have stolen my dreams like this… Not only mine but the dreams of all the children living in this concrete jungle. It is supposed to be snowing now. Christmas… Still, the sun is burning the whole city alive. I laughed at myself… The winter has also become extinct…

(******* is the name of that future city)
